5 Affordable Skin Care Routines with Healthy Returns
Despite what we are told by the media or what we read online, skincare doesn’t have to be expensive to be effective. Sometimes a more simple and less expensive product really is better. The truth is, we all have different skin care needs, but share a similar goal — wanting to look and feel our best. We’ve compiled a list of our top 5 favorite and affordable skin care routines:
Adult Acne Prone Skin: Whenever possible, bloom’d recommends finding products that are hypoallergenic, free of parabens, and other irritants, as many of these ingredients, will further inflame and aggravate your skin. You can find many brands at your local drugstore, such as Neutrogena, that not only fights acne but offers moisturizing solutions, a necessary resolution when drying up pimples.
Our recommendation: Neutrogena Oil Cleansing Wipes
Makeup: Love makeup? Watch a lot of tutorials? Is bloom’d one of your bookmarked sites? You don’t have to rely on full coverage to give you that confidence boost. With green correctors and concealers to reduce redness and tinted primer, you’ve already laid a good foundation for your actual foundation. While it may seem like you’re adding more products, this regime is often more nutrient-rich for your skin as it 1) applies the products in the correct order, 2) have been manufactured with fewer chemicals, and 3) act as a barrier between your makeup and your skin, specifically your vulnerable pores.
20 Minute Soaking: From adding oatmeal to essential oils, soaking in the tub is more than a luxury. You don’t have to invest in Lush’s bath bombs to enjoy the sizzle and fizzle of downtime in the tub. DIY bath bombs are easy to make and a great way to control the ingredients. No time for DIY? You can find natural-ingredient-based bath bombs on Etsy and similar sites. The benefits of taking a bath in hot water are endless: tension, stomach pain and skin relief. Adding essential oils like tea tree is known to relieve dermatitis or other sensitive skin conditions. But again, who doesn’t like the occasional soak in the tub, especially if you need to increase your body temperature and are okay with pruning your fingers.
Our recommendation: LifeAround2Angels Bath Bombs for a 20 minute soak. (You can get a set of 12 for just $27!)
Water On, Water In(take): We’ve discussed the healing properties of immersing oneself in water, but drinking plenty of water is equally encouraged. If you struggle with intaking water throughout morning and night, infusing it with fruit can sweeten the deal. Drinking not only helps flush the toxins from your body but can curb your constant cravings.
Our recommendation: Essentia Water
Facemasks: If you’re keen on making them on your own or purchasing them from ULTA, Target or your favorite pharmacy, for an average of $3.00 you can give your face a home treatment, purifying pores, smoothing lines, soothing puffiness, detoxing or cleansing acne. With ingredients combined in each recipe for specific issues, the preventative and restorative measures are conducive to both healing and pampering results.
- Facemasks: Pure Body Naturals Dead Sea Mask
- Irritated Skin: Yes to Cucumber Soothing Mask
- Acne Prone: Neutrogena Deep Clean Wash Off Clay Mask
- Dry Skin: Ponds Hydrate + Glow Sheet Mask
- Large Pores: Alba Botanica Hawaiian Facial Mask
At bloom’d, we love to pamper ourselves but also proactively look for ways for self-care. With skin being our largest (and most visible) organ we understand the importance of investing in it; thankfully it doesn’t have to break the bank to do so.
