Summer Hair Products For Every Hair Type

It’s finally here! This winter was rough but it’s time to break out the pool floats and the Bluetooth speaker and head to the pool. We crave the summer sun all year and while it’s great to soak it up, we know there are things we need to do to like wear sunscreen and protect our eyes with those cute shades – but do you ever think about your hair? We work so hard to keep our hair healthy and then completely forget to protect it from the sun, chlorine and salt water. So whether your idea of the perfect summer day is hiking, surfing or pool lounging we’ve got some products to keep your hair healthy, shiny and gorgeous all season.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer – This product is great for all hair types, and has beauty bloggers and YouTubers raving about it! This primer will help protect your hair against UV rays and act as a buffer between your strands and the chlorine or salt water that can dry out your hair in record time. Apply before getting in the water, straight out of the shower or before styling your hair for easy brushing, sun protection and to add an additional layer of moisture that we all need this season!

Kiehl’s Silk Groom Serum – Guys! We know you want your hairstyle to stand up to a beach day just as much as the next person, but traditional gels and pomades can be heavy and greasy. Kiehl’s has solved that problem by developing a lightweight serum from a blend of natural oils that will protect your hair from humidity and boost shine while leaving it clean and touchable.

Carol’s Daughter Monoi Ora Flexible Volume Spray – Get natural looking body with this lightweight combination of Monoi Oil and Coconut Water. This spray will add an extra layer of moisture to your hair and protect it from sun, heat styling and general breakage. So get spritzing and give your hair some extra life this summer.

Byrd Texturing Surfspray – Craving that sexy beach hair look? You’ve got it with this product designed by surfers for surfers. This product uses quinoa proteins, vitamin B5 and Seabuckthorn extract to repair damage while sea salt and coconut water keep your hair from falling flat while you’re air drying in that amazing ocean breeze.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask – Keep your curls from getting too thirsty this summer by pre-treating with this deep conditioning mask! Use this product the night before you’re headed out for a long day in the sun. It will keep your hair from drying out and from getting frizzy in the humidity. Too late for a pre-treat? No worries! Throw it on under plastic shower cap while unpacking your beach bag or enjoying an end of day treat, and then rinse before bed – your curls will thank you!

Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Co-Wash – Co-Washing frequently in the summer can help prevent your hair from becoming brittle and dry due to chlorine and salt water damage. This product is formulated with Mongongo and Hemp Seed Oils, which seals moisture into your hair cuticles leaving you with moisture-nourished, smooth and frizz-free curls and coils.

Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel–  This flexible hold gel will keep your frizz from getting the best of you this summer. Use it to seal every strand, lock in moisture, and lock out humidity. Pool water and ocean water affect your hair differently but both are tough on your curls, so beat the system by smoothing some of the gel through your hair before heading down to the sand!

Now that you know what products to toss in your cart – here are some bonus tips!

Hats! Don’t forget to pack a floppy hat or baseball cap! Not only does it protect your hair from sun damage but it protects your scalp from sunburns!

Protective styles – Try braids or other protective styles for beach days. You don’t want it to be too tight to avoid breakage but getting tossed around in the waves or even sweat can cause tangles.

Pre-rinse – Your hair soaks up moisture quickly so to keep it from soaking in all of that chlorine and salt water – try running your hair under tap water before getting in! There are usually beachside showers or even a pool locker room to do a quick rinse pre-swim!
