Adding a Personal Touch to What’s Trending In Fashion
Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” —Lauren Hutton, the American model and actress expresses.
And this fall is one of your chances to turn fashion into your independent style. While you’re adding layers to your look, are you methodical about the pieces you are putting on?
Fictitious newspaper columnist, Carrie Bradshaw, from the renowned book and series Sex and The City declared, “I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet.”
Between her and Lauren have provided women with the tools to utilize shopping and styling to their advantage. Invest in quality clothes and turn that fabric into your style, even though millions of others may own the same article.
Whether it’s a graffiti look, geometric shapes, large ambiguous florals, graphic imagery and verbiage (you can never get enough of demographic and college references or female empowerment phraseology), prints are the best way to clearly define who you are. What is your political stance? What jokes do you find humorous? What cities have you visited? What flowers do you find attractive? Who do you regard as the most esteemed artist or designer?
Sparkles & Sequins
How fitting that GNO (girl’s night out), late dinner, bridal party and LBD (little black dresses) our rolling out with extra pizzazz just in time for autumn. It’s one thing to show up, but an entirely different narrative to walk in feeling confident and in love with your outfit. Leaving the house shouldn’t just be about switching from your sweatpants to a sweater dress but trading up to sparkles. While once a coveted component for prom, Emma Stone, Chrissy Teigen and Olivia Munn prove otherwise.
Just like man-made prints, animal prints are a conscionable way to relate to wildlife and showcase your spirit animal. Instead of asking yourself what does the fox say, ask yourself how you can tell your story through an animal’s faux fur.
Their vibrant colors and unique stipe and spotted formations are always showstoppers and have turned eyes from fashion week to icons like Maggie Gyllanhaal or the risk-taking, trend-setting and now recent movie star Lady Gaga, it could be Bella Hadid or the controversial yet charming Miley Cyrus. For every big cat and jungle animal out there, we could find a counterpart for someone who is paying tribute to it by wearing their imposing and magnetic design.
Big sleeves and shoulder embellishments, big slits and peek-a-boos. We’ve seen cutouts on our yoga pants but now we’re embracing them on our sleeves and necklines. It’s a simple way to add a sophisticated impression when all you want to do is enhance your outfit with statement rings or earrings rather than a slew of necklaces. Plunging necklines and long trains will always be a fan favorite at red carpet events but for the working woman in the middle of small-town America, ankle length rompers, skirts and dresses are perfect for a dinner date or Sunday brunch. Even an oversized sweater is all the rage. Could Ariana Grande have anything to do with it thanks to the jackets that swallow her? As long as you are warm and can incorporate these rocking looks, you’re on your way to being the fashion guru in your group of girlfriends.
These are just a few things that are trending this season. How will add your personal touch to them?
